Report 2018

TI Ireland's Speak Up Safely guideTI Ireland carried out research into local government in Ireland from July 2017 to February 2018. The aim of this research and the resulting report, provided below, is to provide independent analysis from civil society, as well as constructive insights and recommendations, on the local authorities’ systems and practices to promote transparency, accountability and ethics, and to prevent corruption.

This study draws from the findings of TI Ireland’s 2009 and 2012 National Integrity Systems (NIS) studies, which looked at how well-prepared Irish laws and institutions, including local authorities, were to stop corruption in all its forms. The NIS studies looked at various institutions, such as public sector agencies, law enforcement agencies, political parties, civil society, and the business sector. The index and study on local authorities mark the first in a series of National Integrity Indices that TI Ireland plans to carry out.
